Recreational boating and beach visits make Grand Haven and Spring Lake two of the most popular destinations along Lake Michigan. On most summer days, the channel that cuts through downtown Grand Haven is a picture perfect parade of boats. Many land dwellers love to bring blankets or chairs to sit along the boardwalk or on the grassy knolls to observe in this peaceful activity. As a boater, you can head inland through the channel and enjoy Spring Lake; a boater’s paradise! Enjoy quaint bayous, scenic views of waterfront living and a tranquil setting that makes you forget about that “to-do list” at home. For those looking for something extra-ask about Hanky Pank bayou-it can be a great spot for adult fun.

When exploring Lake Michigan offshore, head south of Grand Haven and drop anchor at Rosy Mound Park. A beautiful dune preserve with clear blue waters and a boardwalk that twists through the dunescape into a wooded wonderland full of Michigan wildlife. Just north of Grand Haven is PJ Hoffmaster State Park another great stop for exploring the sand dunes and wildlife, in fact, this State Park offers the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center.

Grand Haven area is a great destination location!  Much of our success is that we draw visitors on a national and international level due to our geographic location.

We offer Lake Michigan to the west, the Grand River to the north and east and Spring Lake to the northeast.  We are nearly surrounded by water.  Each water source offers a different experience - for those looking to have an amazing adventure on Lake Michigan, a quiet time floating in a secluded bayou in Spring Lake, or exploring the natural beauty of river life pushing along in The Grand.

Lake Michigan is often refered to as a fresh water ocean.  It is large and in charge so be sure you keep tuned into the weather forecast to stay safe throughout the season.  Big Blue offers lots of fun with jet skis, power boats, sail boats, wind surfing, surfing, fishing, kayaking, etc. Lake Michigan provides our area with with many of our natural Area Beaches.

Spring Lake is a wonderful inland lake that can provide a more controlled environment for recreation.  Because its an inland lake, it is more protected from the weather and is less challenging than Lake Michigan. If you want to ski, tube or float quietly, Spring Lake is the perfect spot.  Fishing is great fun for the entire family on this lake, as is the public beach area which has a lifeguard posted to assist with your safety.

The Grand River is the longest river in Michigan and for those looking for a more natural experience you can venture for hours among the trees, cattails, turtles, and other Michigan wildlife.  There is also a nice mix of residential living along the Grand River.
