Grand Haven, MI – May 23, 2012 - The Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy is pleased to announce the launch of the community-wide fundraising campaign.  The purpose of the campaign is to create awareness and to raise funds to preserve and maintain the lights for generations to come.   On Memorial Day, there will be a booth setup at the entrance of the pier where you can show your support with the purchase of an engraved brick for $100.  Special edition Michigan Rag Lighthouse t-shirts will be available for $12, as well as, Grand Haven Lighthouse puzzles, featuring photography by Ed Post, for $10.  Proceeds will go toward the 99 day challenge – an effort to raise $99,000.00 from Memorial Day to Labor Day.   These funds will go to help support the first and second phase of the lighthouse preservation project.  The focus for Phase 1 is removing lead paint on both structures, inside and out.

“This year the kick-off for the campaign will include a fundraising booth set-up at the pier entrance for residents and visitors to show their support,” states David Karpin, President of the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy.  “The purpose is to create public awareness about the condition of the lighthouse structures and to bring attention to what we are trying to accomplish through the Lighthouse Conservancy.”  The general public is invited to come out, ask questions and show their support.

The fundraising booth will be open rain or shine Monday, May 28, 11-2pm.  For every brick purchased on Memorial Day, donors will receive one entry per brick, for a chance to win a VIP Tour of the Entrance and Inner Lighthouses for up to 5 people.

The “Keep the Lights On” fundraising campaign hopes to raise enough financial support to fulfill the mission of the Grand Haven Lighthouse Conservancy.  The mission is to preserve and restore Grand Haven’s Entrance and Inner Lighthouse structures along with associated artifacts.  Through public promotion and education, on site interpretive displays and artifact presentations, the history and importance of the lighthouse structures will be conveyed to residents and visitors alike.
